Cox Communications works in the communities they serve to provide affordable Internet and devices to students and families that qualify for the National School Lunch Program. They understand that:
- Less than half of low-income K-12 students have broadband at home compared to more than 90 percent of higher-income families.
- Students with a PC and broadband at home have graduation rates that are 6-8% higher than similar students who don’t have home access to the Internet.
- 30% of all Americans – approximately 100 million people – risk becoming increasingly isolated from contemporary life because they lack the Internet service and the skills necessary to use it effectively.
The Connect2Compete program is designed for K-12 students. Families with at least one child receiving free lunch are eligible to receive Internet services, from Cox, at $9.95 per month. There also are no activation fees or equipment rental fees associated with the high-speed Internet program. Eligible families may apply online at www.connect2compete.org/Cox or by calling 855-222-3252.
The Arizona Education Progress Meter
Expect More Arizona and the Center for the Future of Arizona have launched the Arizona Education Progress Meter to monitor and build upon toward closing Arizona’s education attainment gap and providing a world-class education to every Arizona child.
It represents key milestones on the path to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for all Arizonans. The progress meter utilizes the most current data available to create a simple, visual way to assess the status of education, both for the state as a whole and for individual counties where available. Each indicator includes additional resources, examples of excellence and ways to take action.
Government agencies, nonprofits, education and business groups from around the state, including ABEC, have endorsed the set of key metrics which support a shared vision for a world-class education in Arizona.
